Local Problems:

  • Unemployment is very high at local level – some 60% plus – only 40% of the population has work of any kind.  Men get work for only 120-130 days in a year.

  • Accordingly, a significant number of landless farmers are forced to migrate to metros and other richer states like Punjab, Haryana and Maharashtra, leaving their families to the mercy of God.

  • The official statements may differ but in our gender biased society, women get ½ the wages of men and a child gets 1/4th of this to work in the fields. Slightly fortunate women manage home, gossip and put no output to increase family income. They have no time to attend schools and, thus, cannot escape the poverty that binds them.

  • Due to the lack of education and knowledge a large population is still unaware of their commitment towards the Environment protection.

Solutions:

  • Educate youth and engage them in income generation activities by providing practical trainings to become self-dependent and not a burden on family and nation

  • Bring to homes environment friendly low-cost products and technologies in fields of housing, energy generation and conservation, health, sanitation, applied agriculture that are able to generate or save monies and environment

  • Promote home based Micro-industries, and get idle women force get involved in productive ways.

  • Develop suitable local infrastructure, forward and backward linkages for sustainability

The dream projects of SUN are based on these solutions and ability to handle above mentioned problems with innovative local solutions. Interested to become partner in our endeavour??.
