Could you or family survive on $1 per day? Today, India is regarded as a fast-developing country in the world of business and technological and trade advances. While this is true, there are still many people living in sub-standard conditions of poverty, forced to work hours of labour in the fields for a pitiful $1 per day. With Hindi being India’s predominant language, and English being the language of all business and trade activities, the poor have little chance to escape the poverty that blights their everyday lives. But there is a little ray of light. SUN, The Society for the Underprivileged, has taken steps towards lifting the poverty-stricken out of their squalor and providing the tools they need to generate a better income for themselves and their families. Education is the key and we help them learn using the latest low-cost technologies for greater impact. We help by providing community learning services on many levels. We teach English language skills and translations for dissemination of information, to open the door to the fast-growing business world of today’s India, we run short term courses in Mechanics, Welding, Gem faceting, Jewelry making, Weaving, and a whole host of other sought-after skills. We are also developing sustainable solutions for the sub-standard living conditions of the poor, such as solar powered cookers, fridges, water pumps and micro-irrigation solutions. We train those fortunate enough to have some allied agriculture processes and micro-propagation techniques and provide much needed tools. Our aim is to give the poor the skills they need to generate their own income in today’s rapidly developing working environment. Providing them with fish to eat is not enough and we teach them sustainable ways to grow them for next feeds. We believe the way forward is education to enable them to become truly self-sufficient. It is in this way that we will change the lives of the underprivileged in our country. But we can’t do it alone and invite you to join the mission. We need your help, by way of cash, kind, expertise or low-cost technologies. Most of our work comes from selfless individuals who are willing to volunteer their services for the betterment of their fellow man. We receive very little funding, which limits us greatly in our mission to fulfil the needs of the poor. Our dreams of agricultural, technological, sanitation, skills development and business education and its implementation for a sustainable future for the poor of our country depend on you. We humbly ask you to give whatever you can to help us help those less fortunate than ourselves. Please use the donate link given in this site. Thank you for your generosity.
